Celebrating the Return of the Monastery Organ | Special Open Day

Sunday 19th April, 2026 | 10am – 4pm | The Monastery Manchester

Join us for a joyful and historic open day as we celebrate the long-awaited return of the Monastery’s magnificent Wadsworth organ to the Great Nave.

This special day marks a new chapter in the life of this remarkable instrument, recently restored and reinstated at the heart of the building. Through music, shared experience and live performance, we invite visitors of all ages to witness and celebrate its return.

Throughout the day, the Monastery will come alive with performances, circle dancing, and a landmark inaugural composition by Kevin Malone, created especially for this moment.

Whether you’re drawn by music, heritage, community, or curiosity, this open day offers a rare opportunity to experience the Monastery’s living history in action.

Event Programme

10:30am – Organ Dedication and Monastery Circle of Peace Gathering
Begin the day with a special dedication of the restored organ, followed by a Circle of Peace gathering within the sacred space of the Great Nave.

11:30am – Circle Dancing with Ana Borges de Costa
Join an uplifting circle dance led by Ana Borges de Costa. All are welcome, regardless of experience.

Lunch Break
Enjoy lunch in our café or take time to explore the Monastery’s beautiful heritage spaces and peaceful gardens.

1:30pm – Inaugural Performance: Sanctuary by Kevin Malone
Be among the first to hear Sanctuary, a unique composition by Kevin Malone, performed by the Monastery’s own St Francis Players to commemorate the organ’s return.

2:30pm – Rock Choir
Experience the energy and talent of the Rock Choir in a special celebration concert marking this historic occasion.
