The Monastery of St Francis & Gorton Trust owns and runs this Grade II* listed gem.
Our Charitable Trust was set up after the church and friary had closed, when the derelict building and its hidden treasures risked disappearing forever.
Many years of dedicated fundraising, a steadfast team of volunteers, and a few miracles have meant the Trust has saved and lovingly restored Manchester Monastery.
Decades on, our Charitable Trust still owns The Monastery with many of the original volunteers. It’s a testament to their commitment and love for this remarkable building.
We’re motivated by values of non-judgement, compassion for all life, charity, and sanctuary for those in need. This means that we want to provide help for the people of Manchester and communicate messages of hope and peace to the wider national and global community.
Learning from the past
When you visit us, you’ll feel the inspiration The Monastery has given us and all those who visit. We want to use the extraordinary story of its construction, neglect, and restoration to inspire others.
Inspiring the future
Perhaps our true learning is that we must trust in our ability and follow our ambitions. We want to share this learning with those around us and to encourage future generations to take our guardianship of this site and learning further.
Realising potential
We live in an age of incredible technology. We want to embrace these developments in creative and innovative ways to build and strengthen our communities.
Whatever challenges we face it is love that will last and love that will protect us. Always. Let’s continue to celebrate the incredible strength it gives us to keep ourselves, and everyone we care about, safe, healthy and well. Let’s do it together.
